A huge part of awakening is dependent upon what is in your heart. Do you really desire to be awake? Are you really open and receptive to learning the deep things of God? Do you really want to see (literal) what is in the text (scriptures) and beyond (mysteries of God) the text (scriptures)? See, Jesus Himself said He spoke in parables on purpose so the hardened hearted people couldn’t understand it. So, there’s a deeper meaning than what we read on the surface level. To be awakened, your heart can’t be hardened like the Pharisees. You can’t think you “see” it all already or you will remain blind.
John 9:35-41 NIV “Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, ‘Do you believe in the Son of Man?’ ‘Who is he, sir?’ the man asked. ‘Tell me so that I may believe in him.’ Jesus said, ‘You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.’ Then the man said, ‘Lord, I believe,’ and he worshiped him. Jesus said, ‘For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.’ Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, ‘What? Are we blind too?’ Jesus said, ‘If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.'”
Why does your spirit reject a word from a person whose spirit you’ve tested and you know it is of God? That is a sign of hardness of heart. What you have to do when you feel yourself rejecting a Word from Holy Spirit or a woman or man of God or a person being used by God is the following:
1) Test your own spirit by the Spirit (i.e., “What makes me wrestle with this? Why am I rejecting this? What makes me uncomfortable about this? What about this is good that I can receive and keep in my spirit? What is bad about it? Is it something in me toward the person that makes me reject what he/she is saying?), and
2) Test the spirit of the person by the Spirit of God (i.e., “Is what he/she saying blasphemous? Does it align with Holy Spirit? Do I know this person? What do I know about his/her spirit? Does he/she have a spirit that makes it difficult for me to receive a word from him/her? Is what he/she saying aligned with the Word of God or the mysteries of the Word of God?).
Don’t just take it lightly that you’re not open to learning something that you never knew. [Pride.] Don’t brush it off that you’re closed to changing your entire spiritual paradigm if you have to. [Pride]. Remember the devil came to deceive. He tricked Eve so easily by manipulating the Word. Satan had to use a serpent in order to manifest himself to Eve. He had to go through a vessel to deceive her.
Who does satan use on the earth today to deceive us? Are there people who are willing to be used by satan? Do they work in government? Do they work in book publishing? Are they authors? Are they false prophets? Are they your friends? Your spouse? Are they behind the scenes in society making decisions? Do they blog? Do they make laws? Do you just take everything in the books, news, media for what it’s worth? Do you just blindly trust everything you read, hear, and see? Where do traditions and celebrations originate? How do you know? Are they rooted in pagan rituals and idolatry? How do you know they’re not? Does God approve of everything you’re doing and celebrating? How do you know? Is it just a feeling or a spiritual conviction? Do you test the spirit by the spirit to see if it’s from God?
You have to be able to go beyond the text to the spirit and mysteries of the text in order not to be deceived and in order to experience awakening. So the question is “Do you really want to wake up?” Or will you suffer in spiritual blindness? The spirit of the Pharisees is a dangerous, dangerous, dangerous spirit to have. Do you notice how they always questioned and doubted and second guessed everything Jesus said to them? Yes. Sometimes we question because we are really trying to learn or clarify the information. But sometimes “questioning” is really “rejecting” what the Spirit is trying to teach you. Trust me, I know. Renounce the spirit of pride; humble yourself and be open to awakening. Let’s wake up! Dr.J.
