God has given us a strong fasting foundation. He has also given us a strong spiritual foundation. The first week of our fast prepared us for the warfare we’re engaged in not only throughout the fast but also through the entire year. Week two will further equip us for the fast and the 2016 year. Because we are going to need faith to believe that the vision God has given and is still revealing will actually come to pass, God led me to focus on faith this week and how to have a posture of faith.
The scriptural focus for this week is Hebrews Chapter 11 and Mark Chapter 9 (KJV). Continue to respond to your reading, your journal writing topics, and the events throughout your fast each day in your journal. Since the fruit of the spirit that we’re focusing on this week is “faith,” what do you think the enemy will attack? You guessed it, our faith. We’re not afraid of the devil and it would be sin to know what’s right and not do it because of fear. So my prayer is that God will increase our faith this week so that He can do miracles in us, through us, and for us.
Reading Hebrews 11 and Mark 9 (KJV) will increase our spiritual capacity for a strong faith this season. It takes faith like the faith Paul references in Hebrews to be able to do what God has called us to do and to receive what He has for us to receive. Paul refers to Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Joseph, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets and other clouds of witnesses as exemplars of those having strong faith. When the enemy attacks your faith, I dare you to go back and read the story of either of the clouds of witnesses Paul mentions in Hebrews!
In Mark Chapter 9 (KJV), there is a powerful story about the disciples walking with Jesus (some even saw Him transfigured) yet they are described as a “faithless generation.” We’ve fasted an entire week. When the attacks come from the devil, when you’re engaged in battle this week, please don’t have God to refer to you as a “faithless generation.” During the battle is the time to demonstrate your faith!
Say your memory verses (1 Peter 5:8 NIV and Philippians 4:4-7 NIV) aloud each day until you have them memorized. Continue to say Ephesians 6:10-12 KJV and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 KJV aloud each day. We will add two more memory verses next week.
Do not compromise your morning and evening prayer, devotion (which includes reading your prescribed scriptures), and worship. This is an important part of your fast. Begin to pray now about revelation about the spiritual realm.
God has already begun to do supernatural things for you this year. You have to have faith to believe it. What good is a written vision that you don’t believe in? Rejoice in the Lord always! Stay alert. The enemy wants to kill you. Keep fasting. Keep fighting. Keep the faith. We’re almost there! Dr.J.
