“Write the Vision, Make It Plain” by Dr.J. 2016 Fasting Post 7

Attention all fasters, we have homework! Before January 3, 2016 at 5:30 PM all of us should have a journal, notepad, or a composition notebook with at least the following written in it:

  • Your commitment to fast (a statement with the beginning date and end date for our fast)
  • What are you fasting from during the fast (in addition to choice foods and beverages – be specific)
  • The expected results of your fast (be explicit)
  • Your vision God has given you (even if you’re seeking God for clarity about the vision, write the vision any way)
  • Your prayer requests (be explicit)
  • Any sins the Holy Spirit has revealed to you or obvious sins with which you struggle and from which you need deliverance (this is your private journal so be real and honest with God)

You must go into this fast totally relying on the power of the Holy Spirit. We can’t start or complete a fast of this spiritual and physical magnitude without the power of the Holy Spirit. Fasting requires constant, consistent, and continual prayer throughout the day in order to make it through each day. That is why is it crucial that the first page of your journal includes your commitment statement, what you’re fasting from, the results you expect, and the vision. Each time you get weak, each time the enemy attacks which will be frequently (remember Jesus’s 40 day fast), review the first pages of your journal as you pray. It is a reminder of why you started the fast and how significant it is that you finish. The vision will help you to keep fasting when you feel like fainting. It is a major part of the fasting process. Dr.J.

Are You Too Chicken to Crossover? by Dr.J. 2016 Fasting Post 6

Are you truly ready to step into 2016? Are you mentally, emotionally, and spiritually prepared for consecration for your crossover? I’m not talking about the countdown from 10 to zero on the clock into a numerical beginning of a calendar year that happens according to each time zone. I’m talking about a spiritual crossing over into what God purposed YOU for and has for YOU.

A prophet wrote four words in a post in social media, The Crossover, Joshua 3. The Holy Spirit immediately whispered to me, “Read Joshua 3.” I’m saying to you, read the entire passage for yourselves. As I read the entire chapter, the Holy Spirit emphasized these three passages to me.

Joshua 3:5 NIV Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”
Consecration is to sanctify, to make holy, and to cease doing things (sin) that separate you from God. Samuel, Sampson, and John the Baptist were declared Nazarites but all other Nazirite vows are voluntary. A Nazirite is one who makes a vow to surrender himself completely to God for a period of time. Stay clean. Singles, no sex or sexual acts. No wine, beer, or liquor – any alcoholic beverages. Follow the guidelines in the Daniel Fast. We have already begun and will continue to consecrate ourselves for the next 23 days. Get ready. Fast. Consecrate yourselves because God is about to do supernatural, unbelievable, unfathomable, miraculous, and amazing things when you cross over.

Joshua 3:7 And the Lord said to Joshua, Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses.
Get ready. People will see God elevate you for the kingdom and know that He is with you and that He’s been instructing you all this time. Some people have been suspicious of you, unsure about who you say you are but there will be no doubt when God exalts you for his kingdom. Your elevation may be spiritual, in position, in status, or some other form. In your exaltation, however, make sure God gets all the glory. Stay pure (2 Timothy 2:21 NLT “If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.”) even after God exalts you and stay humble because pride is right before the fall back down from your elevation. Whatever happens as a result of your obedience, prayers, and fasting, stay with God.

Joshua 3:15-17 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.
God will make supernatural miraculous things happen for us to cross over into this next season of exaltation. We see the water at flood levels as an impossibility because the water is blocking our way to where God showed us we’re going. Finances, gender, age, impediments, looks or any other perceived obstacles will not block us from crossing over. If you would only obey, believe, pray and fast, God will supernaturally make flood waters back away from us so we can cross over. I have seen some of my debt completely canceled. I have had money appear that I didn’t know I had in a lump sum, twice (once last week) since fasting. A gift manifested in my son from God in September 2015. Conspiracies against me obliterated year after year. I can’t tell it all but if you obey, believe, pray and fast God will perform water moving miracles in your life.

You have to be ready to Crossover into 2016. Some people will turn around before the fasting journey begins. Some will faint in the middle of crossing over and turn back. Some people are overwhelmed by the promise of what’s on the other side. The vision is too big for them. The blessings and favor are too overwhelming. It is too much responsibility so they never even entertained the idea of the fasting journey even though the vision is real and has been burning in their hearts for some time. So the question is, “Are you too chicken to cross over? Do you really want to go to the next spiritual level in Christ? Are you ready for the spiritual warfare that will ensue? Do you want to be able to hear the Holy Spirit speak to you and direct you and guide you? Are you ready to relinquish your will, your ways, and your vision for His? Before you make a Nazirite vow, commit in your mind and heart to fulfilling it. My God. My God. My God. The Crossover Season. I’m ready! Dr.J.

Why Are You Fasting (Fasting Calendar Included) by Dr.J. 2016 Daniel Fast Post 5

If you are fasting with us January 3 through January 23, 2016 ask yourself and reflect on two questions as we prepare to write the vision and prayer requests God has given us or pray for His vision for 2016:
“(1) Why am I fasting? and
(2) What do I want to accomplish with this fast?
Technically, you should be fasting for focus and commitment to a project or for an answer to prayer” (The Daniel Fast for Spiritual Breakthrough, Elmer Towns).

God knows the motives of our hearts. Our motives for this fast should be spiritual. We want to know God’s vision for our lives and more immediately for the 2016 New Year. The vision God gave me for our fast this year is “We Are At War: Fight Harder.” We have been losing daily spiritual battles and that is coming to an end as a result of this fast. We want to know how to fight in the spirit realm so that we can live our lives victoriously on earth before our final victory when Jesus returns. We want to be able to discern God’s best for our lives and we’re willing to surrender our will to His.

Please search for Fasting Diet plans for the Daniel Fast as there are tons already developed. Make sure that your doctor approves of this fast and your diet before you begin. Since our fast is for spiritual growth, I developed a calendar (see attached) that emphasizes and highlights our Bible study and reflection more than it does our diet. I have created two calendars. One is color coded and the other is not. The attached calendar is color coded. (If you would like a PDF emailed version, please comment in the appropriate box after this blog and I will email it to you.)

The 21-day fasting calendar includes the following components:

  1. The fasting day from 1 to 21
  2. Morning and Evening Prayer, Devotion, Worship
  3. The focus Fruit of Spirit for the entire week
  4. Journal Writing with a Reflection Question
  5. Bible Reading with specific chapters of focus
  6. Memory Verses to say aloud

Fasting Day from 1 to 21
Our fast begins on January 3 through January 23, 2016. Each day of the 21-day fast is noted on the calendar from 1 to 21 as well as the dates for each day. On Day 1, you will eat that day; however, you will not eat after 6:00pm. On Day 21, you will not resume your regular diet until after 6:00pm when the fast ends. NOTE: Do not eat anything heavy on after your fast ends as 6:00pm as it can make your stomach unsettled.

Morning and Evening Prayer, Devotion, Worship
Make sure you set your clocks earlier to wake up and make time for quiet time in the evenings for prayer. Look at your vision (project) and/or prayer requests for this fast. Make sure you intercede on behalf of family, your church, and the world. In your devotional time, study the prescribed scriptures. You need enough time to take notes, highlight and reflect. Also, select the worship music for your morning and evening worship. Say sweet words of adoration aloud to God and what you believe and expect Him to do during this fast. Finally, be still and quiet to meditate and listen to hear what God has to say.

Focus Fruit of the Spirit
In order to stop losing daily spiritual battles, we have to learn how to operate in the power of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:25 (KJV) states, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” In order to survive battles in the spiritual realm, we have to walk in the Spirit. Evidence that we walk in the spirit is shown in the spiritual fruit we bear. The Holy Spirit gave me one focus fruit of the spirit for each week: Week 1- Self-control; Week 2- Faith; and, Week 3- Peace. Our reflection questions will address each of the focus fruit. By the end of the fast, you will see growth in these areas. The Holy Spirit will do His part in us during this fast.

Journal Writing with a Reflection Question
Keep a journal for this fast. Write the year and dates so that you can look back on your vision and notes. I still  have mine from my first fast in 2010. Each day (or evening) you are to reflect on the day’s events, more specifically your spirit and intimacy with God. Did you hear from Him? Were you battling? How did you respond? Then, truly reflect on and answer the reflection questions thoroughly. The Holy Spirit gave me questions for each day of the fast beginning on Day 2 through Day 21. Answer the questions in your journal at the end of your daily reflection.

Bible Reading with Specific Chapters of Focus
Read the passages identified on the Sunday of each week for the entire week. For example, January 3-January 7 we will read James Chapter 4, Daniel Chapters 1 and 10 each day of the week. Read all of each chapter, each day of the week for a total of seven times for each chapter. Take notes, highlight, pray and ask God for Revelation about each chapter. The Holy Spirit may reveal something different or deeper to you each day you read the chapter. Your study will all make sense by the end of the fast but you will get unbelievable revelation throughout. The scriptures are related to our overall theme of spiritual warfare and the fruit of the spirit.

Memory Verses to Say Aloud
One of the weapons of spiritual warfare is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. We need to be able to speak the Word of God aloud during warfare without having to search for our mobile devices or Bibles. We have to have the Word hidden in our hearts so that we may not sin against God. We have to use the Word against the devil just as Jesus did during His fast. Memorize two verses each week. Say the two verses aloud each morning, throughout the day, and in the evening for seven days. During the second week, you may recite the two for week two and week one so that you won’t forget the previous verses. (That always helps me.) By the end of the fast, you will have six scriptures memorized. If you already know these six, please read them any way with our study, but you may select others to replace the ones you know. They should be related to warfare, self-control, faith, or peace.

Please do not go into this fast halfheartedly. When you make a commitment to 21-days, we have to go all the way with God unless your health is in jeopardy. Believe it, so many with health issues have been given spiritual and physical strength from God during this fast.

I have spent a considerable amount of time with God in preparing this for you and I pray that it truly blesses you. Share this information with a friend. We know the power of two or more together on one accord. Please follow my blog each day for more information about the fast. God bless you and I love you with God’s love. Dr.J.

“Alcohol, Sex, and Dirty Movies Can’t Go On This Fast With You” by Dr.J. 2016 Fast Post 4

I’m beginning to eliminate clutter little by little so I can focus on God. A fast requires us to clear our minds and hearts. Over these last six years of fasting, I have gone into a couple of fasts half heartedly.  I had not made up my mind to truly die to flesh and sacrifice my fleshly desires. The results? Spiritual setbacks and stagnation which impacted so many areas of my life.

Don’t go in if you’re not ready to go “all in.” Ask God today, “In addition to food and sin, what else do I need to give up so that I can hear from You about the vision and direction for my life, my marriage, my child, my career, my business venture, my ministry.  I know the results of this fast include You rewarding me (and my child) openly.”

You will be at war with your flesh from now until the end of your fast. Your stomach will hate you and try to dictate what you eat. Your flesh will crave eveything its used to having (alcohol, sex, dirty movies, books, and music, profanity,  etc.).You don’t need any distractions. This is too serious to go into half heartedly. Your whole life changes after this fast. Focus now. Dr.J.

We Can’t Jump Into a Fast While Swimming in Sin by Dr.J.2016 Daniel Fast Post 3

Listen, we can’t just jump into a fast. We have to be in a submissive, sacrificial, and self-disciplined state of being NOW. We can’t do and say any and everything NOW and transform ourselves on January 3. Start fasting and sacrificing NOW before the fast begins. Relinquish sin to God and stay away from sin NOW. God has to be able to speak to you about your purpose, vision, and goals for fasting on January 3. Be quiet. Stay off social media except for spiritual purposes. Begin praying and listening for an answer from God Now. Dr.J.

Your Blessing is Already at Your Door by Dr.J.

The Holy Spirit reminded me of this powerful scripture, Act 12 (Read the entire chapter.). We have fasted, prayed, and claimed that we believe God for specific blessings but when the blessing is confirmed, we really don’t believe God has done it or will do it for us.

The blessings are right at our door, our finger tips, and the tips of our tongue and we can’t even grasp it. God wants us to make the next step and walk toward the door of our destiny. That dream business, ministry, book, or relationship belongs to you. God says that all you have to do is just use your hands. He has given you the anointing in your hands to create and produce something. Just begin to write the vision God gave you and create what God has shown you. The manifestation awaits the use of your hands. God says all you have to do is open your mouth and speak because the blessing of His power is already in you. Profess the vision. Speak the vision. Claim the vision. It’s already yours.

When God shows up and shows slap out, don’t be astonished. God has already confirmed the blessing, all you have to do is believe and open the door. Dr.J.

Acts 12:5, 13-16 “So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.  Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door. When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, ‘Peter is at the door!’  ‘You’re out of your mind,’ they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, ‘It must be his angel.’ But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished.”
