2 Chronicles 20:1-3 (KJV) 1 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle. 2 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi. 3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
I don’t know whether you have people coming against you on the job or in your family or circle of friends. It could be the enemy’s use of your finances, health, relationships, or children coming against you. It may even be your own thoughts you’re battling with. Whatever it is, you feel like it is a “great multitude against thee.” The impact from the attacks are so overwhelming and powerful in the flesh that you are literally afraid. You don’t know what to do or how you will survive the impact from these attacks. But then the Holy Spirit says to you, “Fast.”
You proclaim a fast but not just you alone. You solicit your entire family to fast with you because you need a supernatural breakthrough to survive these attacks. You, your spouse, your children, and other God-fearing believers in your family join in on this fast with you. You, like Jehoshaphat have assembled the entire family together in prayer and petition. And then, God answers.
He may give you inner peace as your breakthrough. He may bless you financially as your breakthrough. He may promote you as your breakthrough. He may literally defeat the “great multitude against thee.” He may do all those things and more. We don’t know how God in His sovereignty will respond to our fasts. We do know that God is a God of breakthrough. We do know that His Word will not return void. We do know that we don’t have to move. All we have to do is be still and God will fight for us.
Keep fasting. Keep being obedient. Keep the faith. Take God at His Word. Dr.J.
