It’s Fasting Season (Post 5): Is It Worth Your Birthright? Dr.J.

What blessings are we giving up because of our desire to eat? In order to gratify our flesh, sometimes we are willing to sacrifice a relationship with God. We want to be fulfilled right now. We want satisfaction no matter what the cost. We want to be pleased no matter who it hurts. Our need is more important than God or anyone else’s. We have a burning desire that can’t be quenched. So we sin. We give up on the fast because we crave food more than God. We cheat on our loved one because she isn’t satisfying any more. We are willing to sell our birthright, the promises of God, at a cheap price and for temporary pleasures. God has plans for you to prosper you and give you hope. God has promises to fulfill through you, in you, and for you. Before you take a bite to eat, before you sleep with her, before you satisfy your flesh, think about this…is it worth my birthright? Dr.J.
Genesis 25:29-34 (ESV) Esau Sells His Birthright
“29 Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom.[a]) 31 Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.” 32 Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” 33 Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.”
