Is It Really Love? 💜 Dr.J.

We can’t feign love. Love either is or it isn’t. If it is love, it’s real and it shows in your actions. “Love hates what is evil.” Love and evil can’t co exist. It’s evil to envy. It’s evil to be selfish. It’s evil to be easily angered. It’s evil to believe the worst about another. It’s evil to lie and deceive. It’s evil to cheat.

“Love clings to what is good” – good from you toward another and good from another. “To cling to” is strong. It means that you hold on tightly to what is good and you let all the wordliness and foolishness go. You find the good in another and you cherish it and value it. You never let go of the good through Christ who strengthens you.

“Be devoted in love” or be loyal in love. “Show firm and constant support through allegiance.” This can only be done through the power of the Holy Spirit and in the authority of the name of Jesus. Flesh can’t be devoted. Flesh can’t commit. But when you’re subject to God first, then you can be loyal to another. Be devoted to God and then you can be devoted in love toward another.

Now this is the true test of love. “Honor another above yourself.” Be quiet when you want to be disagreeable. Be subject when you want to be heard or seen. Show respect whether it is due in the natural or not. Stay when you want to leave. Love when you want to hate. Put his needs before your own. Put her desires before yours. Honor is another strong verb. To honor means to “regard with great respect” but it also means to fulfill or keep an obligation. We are obligated to love as believers in the body of Christ.

It’s time we get to real love, the next level in love and stop feigning love. God is not mocked. He knows when we are faking and when we are truly allowing the Holy Spirit to transform our hearts so we can love better. Dr.J.

Romans 12:9-10 NIV “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
